Xiamen University, located in the resort-like island of Xiamen in
Southeast China, was founded 88 years ago by Mr. Tan Kah-Kee, a well-
known Chinese expatriate/emigrant who lived in Singapore most of his
life. Thanks to the late Professor Wang Yanan, a past university
president, prominent Chinese economist and the Chinese translator of
Karl Marx’s Das Kapital, economics in Xiamen University has been and
continues to be among the top programs in China. To further develop
its economics program, Xiamen University has set up a research-
oriented institute- Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics
(WISE). WISE focuses on high-quality graduate training, frontier
research, and intensive international academic exchanges and
cooperation. Having successfully recruited 15 full-time faculty
members from abroad in the past three years, WISE has available
several faculty positions in all areas of economics and finance at all
ranks. Junior candidates are expected to have completed a Ph.D by
August 2010 and have evidence of promising research ability whilst
senior candidates must have a Ph.D and a demonstrably/proven strong
research record. Dependent upon the qualifications of successful
candidates, salaries ranging from RMB 300K (tenure track assistant
professor) to RMB 600K (a Chair professor), with a regular teaching
load of 3 courses per year are available. Additional graduate course
(s) may be arranged with commensurate pay. Other benefits including
financial and administrative research support and a housing subsidy
